When different drivers share the Highlander Limited/Platinum, the memory seats and mirrors make it convenient. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver's seat position and outside mirror angle. The Outlander doesn't offer a memory system.
The Highlander's standard front power windows open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Outlander's passenger windows don't open or close automatically. The Highlander Limited/Platinum's front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches.
The Outlander's standard power locks don't automatically lock the doors. The Highlander's standard doors lock when the transmission is engaged. This is an important feature for occupant safety. Locked doors are proven to open less often in collisions, and they are also effective in preventing crime at traffic lights. (The power lock's automatic feature may have to be activated by your dealer.)
To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Highlander has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Outlander only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn't as good.
Consumer Reports rated the Highlander's headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Outlander's headlights, which were rated “Good.”
The Highlander has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The Outlander only offers an automatic headlight on/off feature as an extra cost option.
While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors available for the Highlander Limited detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Outlander doesn't offer automatic dimming high beams.
To shield the driver and front passenger's vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Highlander has standard extendable sun visors. The Outlander doesn't offer extendable visors.
Both the Highlander and the Outlander offer available heated front seats. The Highlander Platinum also has standard heated second row seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated second row seats aren't available in the Outlander.
Standard air conditioned seats in the Highlander Limited/Platinum keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Outlander doesn't offer air conditioned seats.
On extremely cold Winter days, the Highlander Platinum's standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Outlander doesn't offer a heated steering wheel.
Both the Highlander and the Outlander offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Highlander has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Outlander doesn't offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.
Standard Entune App Suite for the Highlander XLE/Limited/Platinum allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations, tagging songs to buy them later, finding fuel prices at nearby service stations, searching the internet and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The Outlander doesn't offer factory integrated smartphone program access.
The Highlander XLE/Limited/Platinum has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Outlander doesn't offer a house-current electrical outlet.
