For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Toyota Avalon have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Genesis G70 doesn't offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The Toyota Avalon has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The G70 doesn't offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The Avalon has standard Whiplash Injury Lessening Seats (WIL), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WIL system allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The G70 doesn't offer a whiplash protection system.

The Avalon has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G70 doesn't offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Avalon Limited/Touring offers optional Rear Cross-Traffic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The G70 doesn't offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the Avalon and the G70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

There are almost 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Avalon's warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it's being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Avalon's reliability 23 points higher than the G70.

J.D. Power and Associates' 2021 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 4 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked 8th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports' January 2021 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in reliability. Genesis is ranked fifth.

The Avalon's 3.5 DOHC V6 produces 49 more horsepower (301 vs. 252) and 7 lbs.-ft. more torque (267 vs. 260) than the G70 2.0T's standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Toyota Avalon uses regular unleaded gasoline. The G70 requires premium for maximum efficiency, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Toyota Avalon higher (5 out of 10) than the Genesis G70 (3). This means the Avalon produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the G70 every 15,000 miles.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don't press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The Avalon has a standard brake assist system to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The G70 doesn't offer a brake assist feature.

For better traction, the Avalon Limited's tires are larger than the largest tires available on the G70 (235/45R18 vs. 225/40R19).

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Avalon's wheelbase is 1.4 inches longer than on the G70 (113 inches vs. 111.6 inches).

The Avalon Touring uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The G70 doesn't offer active noise cancellation.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Avalon a Mid-size car, while the G70 is rated a Compact.

The Avalon has 8.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the G70 (104.3 vs. 95.9).

The Avalon has 2 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 5.5 inches more rear legroom and 2.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the G70.

The Avalon has a much larger trunk than the G70 (16.1 vs. 10.5 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the Avalon the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the G70 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Avalon's speed-sensitive wipers speed up when the vehicle does, so that the driver doesn't have to continually adjust the speed of the wipers. The G70's standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Insurance will cost less for the Avalon owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Avalon will cost $960 to $6305 less than the G70 over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Toyota Avalon will be $3712 to $13207 less than for the Genesis G70.
