For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Ford Escape have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The MINI Cooper Clubman doesn't offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Ford Escape are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Escape offers an optional backup collision prevention system that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The Escape's lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a lane departure warning system.

Ford's powertrain warranty covers the Escape 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than MINI covers the Cooper Clubman. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Cooper Clubman ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Escape has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine's coolant is lost. The engine will run on only half of its cylinders at a time, reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the car's engine.

J.D. Power and Associates' 2019 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Ford vehicles are better in initial quality than MINI vehicles. J.D. An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine's cylinders helps improve the Escape 1.5 Turbo's fuel efficiency. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regardless of its engine, the Escape's engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. (Start/Stop isn't accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) MINI only offers an automatic engine start/stop system on the Cooper Clubman Auto.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Ford Escape uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended with the 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder engine for maximum performance). The Cooper Clubman requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Escape FWD's standard fuel tank has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cooper Clubman (14.8 vs. 13.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Escape AWD's standard fuel tank has 2.5 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cooper Clubman (15.7 vs. 13.2 gallons).

The Escape has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it's removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Escape offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. To shield the driver and front passenger's vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Escape SE/SE Sport/SEL/Titanium has standard extendable sun visors. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer extendable visors.

On extremely cold winter days, the Escape SEL/Titanium's standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a heated steering wheel.

The Escape Titanium has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Cooper Clubman doesn't offer a house-current electrical outlet.
